The second Trans-Am of the season (Dallas was cancelled due to heavy rainfall) was held at Lime Rock and, as at last month's opener at Laguna Seca, Parnelli Jones dominated it in his Bud Moore Mustang. Strating from the second row, Parnelli seized the lead in the first lap and nobody else even got a smell of t he lead. Second at the finish, one lap behind (!) was Ed Leslie in a Chaparral Camaro and Sam Posey was 3rd in the Autodynamics Challenger, two laps further behind.

Everybody had trouuble of one kind or another - even Jones, whose Mustang finished the race tithout brakes and with a broken pushrod - it wasn't a pure walkover for Ford this time.

Jones was 3rd on the starting grid behind Mark Donohue's Javelin and Dan Gurney's AAR 'Cuda. Everybody, just about, had a shot at running 2nd at Lime Rock. Donohue held 2nd in the opening laps, then Swede Savage took over in his AAR 'Cuda. Swede kept it until lap 18, when his engine weakened and he gegan fading toward his retirement in lap 34. Dan Gurney, who was 2nd-fastest qualifier in his AAR 'Cuda, had trouble with a leaking valve cover gasket, replaced it, dropped to 20th, worked up to 6th and then retired, ill from oil fumes.

Will anyone catch Parnelli?
